Hi Yidao. Thanks for this news.
Looks like we have alumni associations in Shenzhen, Beijing, ... But no
offshore (America, Europe,...)'s voice. Have we done anything? Can we do
anything? Maybe setup a web site for opinions and then we act together...
My personal opinion is that if we cannot keep HUST, then "Hua Zhong
University" is a better choice. Under the University, we have Tongji medical
college and HUST...

I agree with you. The merge itself is really funny. There are two mergers
which can be considered as the good mergers,
1. HUST merge with Wuhan Univ.. This will creat a very strong university in
China in Science and Technology and save resources and promote the quality
of education.
2. HUST should merge with
Wuhan Institute of Technology,
Wuhan Automotive Polytechnic University,
Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering
Wuhan Transportation University
Wuhan Institute of Chemical Technology
Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping
Central South University of Finance
Wuhan University of Science and Technology
Wuhan University of Technology
Hubei Institute of Technology
The South Central University of Political Science and Law
There are two many engineering and science schools in Wuhan. After the
merger, the University should still be named as HUST with many Engineering
or other schools under it. From my view, the merger with Tonji and Chengjian
is the worst scenraio. It will not improve the operating efficiency and
education quality at all for HUST. The merger with Tongji can be viewed as
the politically funest game and the merger with Chengjian (what's the
academic quality of Chengjian? It's at the bottom.)can be viewed as a land
deal only. W should take action on this. Should we draft a letter to HUST
and call for signatures? We also know many alumini who are not on the list
in North America. The leaders at HUST should not lose theirself into any
kinds of waves like this just because the other universities are doing
healthy mergers. It's like a marriage, HUST should only merge until he find
right ones that fit.

Hi Mr.Cai,
I strong support your thought, HUST must not change its name, HUST's
name is the fortune of tens of thousands of members and alumnis around
the world, it is not the private property for some so-called "leaders of
the university", not the thing they can use to exchange higher position
and the title of "member of CSA/CEA". HUST should make a principle that
never change her name again for keeping the benefit of her alumnis.
"HuaTong" such kind name make people think we are a private school created
by some agents, I don't think it will bring any benefit to Tongji either,
it just destroy both famous Universities.
If you think there are anything we can do, please let me know, I don't
want some day my employer will suspect if I really have a Bachlor Degree
or just bought one from " Ke lai deng" kind of fake university.

It's too funny to accept any new name of Huazhong University of Science and
Technology. Can Alumni in USA and other country do anything to prevent such

Why bother with the name? You guys can make it Huazhong University of
Science and Technology and Tongji Medical School of HUST. The Tongji
people will feel happy if the name is changed because they have got face.
But they will get more face if some of them can be the senior officers of
HUST. Besides, everybody knows what is HUST and what is Tongji. Tongji is
still a prestigious medical school not because it is the medical of HUST,
but because it always is. Just like Medical School of John Hopktins. In
fact, the medical school of Cornell is in New York City and we people in
Ithaca here are rarely aware that it is a part of Cornell. Now, John
Hopkins' medical school is almost independent.
Did anyone ask why we are merging with Tongji. What is the benefits of
the merger? Just to make it bigger and comprehensive. What are they going
to do with it after the merger? To make it another profit center or
something else? What difference are they going to make except being
bigger? Anybody can ask or answer the questions? I will not accept a
proposal unless it has a good reason.
